At-Home Tenebrae Service Booklet {Digital Download}

Latin for “darkness,” Tenebrae is a religious service particular to the Triduum, and featuring a unique triangular candelabra called a “hearse.” In it are fifteen candles, fourteen darker natural wax candles and one white candle. The fourteen candles represent Jesus’ followers, the white candle represents Jesus. The gradual extinguishing of each of the candles helps us to reflect on Christ's death and then the return of the white candle brings hope for his coming Resurrection!

This at home guide is designed to help you lead your family through a Tenebrae service in your home! It includes instructions on how to set up your service as well as the prayers and short bible passages that are read during the service. This is definitely a Holy Week tradition that you'll want to bring back year, after year!

Note: a Tenebrae candelabra is available from CAY in simple and complex versions, or make your own from any fifteen candles arranged in a line.
