St. Agnes is a very popular saint among young women, as she is the patron saint of those seeking chastity and purity. Born in 291 AD to wealthy parents, she grew to be a beautiful and poised young lady. Many men sought her hand in marriage, but she – early on – promised herself to the Lord. One of the young men who wanted to marry Agnes was the governor’s son, and didn’t take lightly to having his marriage proposal declined. One account of her death tells how he had her drug through the streets, naked, to shame her. Miraculously, her hair grew long to cover her nakedness. She was later condemned to death for her Christian beliefs.
In creating this Sew-a-Saint of St. Agnes, I adorned her in lace and gold as would befit a daughter of a wealthy family. She holds the traditional lamb, for she, too, was sacrificed for her faith. In her right hand is a palm frond, typically seen in portrayals of martyrs. On the back, her hair is created to be lush and long – and almost to have a life of its own, as it did on the day it miraculously grew.
These plush dolls are absolutely beginner friendly, and can be sewn by hand or with a machine. Hand drawn, each comes printed on a fat-quarter of fabric and is ready to sew. Instructions are printed on the fabric, ensuring you’ll know how to make it as soon as it arrives in your mailbox.
