These beautiful pendants are made by a Virginia artist, Raphael. She creates them from vintage holy cards!
Sourced from an early-20th century Parisian holy card, this image portrays the Blessed Mother and Baby Jesus in a close embrace, their eyes directed towards a crown of roses that the Christ Child places over the head of a white veiled young woman (not pictured). In His other hand, Jesus extends a white lily – a symbol of purity – to the young maiden, which she lovingly embraces. This image beautifully captures the Marian devotion that gripped France after the feast of the Immaculate Conception was formalized in 1854. During this time, Mary was often depicted as a protectress and guide of young women.
