Collection: Our Lady of Sorrows

This devotion goes back to the Middle Ages but has gained new popularity following Our Lady’s apparitions in Kibeho, Rwanda in the 1980s. Our Lady of Kibeho recommended that people pray the Chaplet (or Rosary) of the Seven Sorrows to obtain the favor of repentance.

“Our life, our sweetness, and our hope . . .” aka Our Lady, who had to endure many sour moments in her life. We love that this recipe calls to mind the love which she shows to us, her children, as well as the love her sorrowful heart holds for her Son.

Our family's favorite activity for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is to read the passages of the Bible that relate to the seven sorrows of Our Lady, while eating sour fruit or candies, and trying NOT to make sour faces!

When you eat these sour gummies with your family, we recommend handing out seven to each person and then eating one gummy as you read about each of Mary’s seven sorrows from the bible.

This art print features the piece “The Miraculous Translation of the Body of Saint Catherine of Alexandria to Sinai” by Karl von Blaas. Tradition tells us that after her Martyrdom in Rome St. Catherine’s body was carried by angels to the top of Mount Sinai where it was discovered hundreds of years later by the monks who lived in a nearby monastery. Display this print all month long and be inspired by Saint Catherine’s heroic virtue!

Legend says that St. George slayed a dragon in the name of Jesus Christ. His heroic actions saved a princess, along with all of the city’s inhabitants, who then asked to be baptized in His name. What really happened is. . . St. George spread the Good News (Jesus) during the Middle Ages, saving many from the threat of their pagan beliefs (the dragon). With this in mind, reflect on St. George as a missionary and warrior, and recall your baptismal promises as you recite the prayer on the back of this print!

This art print features the icon “Our Lady of the Sign”. The artist in unknown, but it originated in Byzantium and is one of the most revered icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon shows Mary, the Mother of God, with her arms outstretched in an attitude of prayer. In the middle is the Christ Child blessing the world at the moment of his conception.
