As a monstrance magnifies the host, so we are also called to make our lives a Magnificat: to magnify the Lord. This candle arrives in a gorgeous embossed glass jar, meaningfully painted a deep blue in imitation of many Marian apparitions. Mary is our model in every age and stage of life, and aspects of her famous Magnificat prayer are symbolized in this candle’s sophisticated and refreshing scent:

•   Clary sage: During the Middle Ages, clary sage was known as Ocultus Christi, or “Eye of Christ”, and was highly valued for its medicinal properties. It was associated with the moon and the first word of its name, “clary,” is derived from “claris” which means “clear.” Mary, as the mediatrix of all graces, intercedes for us to clarify and illuminate God’s will when we pray.
•   Myrrh: Used for the anointing of the sick and given to Jesus by the three Kings who visited him in His infancy. Mary would likely have anointed Christ’s body with myrrh after his crucifixion and before his burial. In times of sorrow and loss we are accompanied by the Blessed Mother whose love for us knows no bounds.
•   Bergamot: The zest flavors earl grey tea which is known for its anti-depressant, anti-anxiety properties. Lavender flowers represent purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness. In times of stress, Mary’s example can help calm and purify our minds and hearts. Purple is the color of royalty, symbolizing Mary as the Queen of Heaven.
